In this Laurent Pichereau piece, he conveys humanity's violent impact on nature, underscoring the urgent environmental crises of our era. Inspired by Paul Rubens' The Tiger and Lion Hunt (1615-1617), Laurent reimagines the Baroque and Renaissance hunting scene, emphasizing both its epic dynamism and the cruelty of human interference. The red-highlighted weapons symbolize mankind's destructive role, while an electrocardiogram at the bottom of the piece represents the fragile, yet still-beating heart of our planet—questioning how long it can endure.
This work blends complex artistic techniques to uphold the sculptural form of the figures, enhancing both depth and perspective, while transitioning vibrant color into grayscale to draw focus to the composition’s message. Selected for the World Art Dubai 2024 exhibition, The Struggle exemplifies Laurent's dedication to bridging the past with the present, using historical art forms to reflect modern lessons and hopes for the future.
